Chico Stix x
Christopher Robin Duncan
On the first full moon of 2025- the Wolf Moon, Chico Brenes and I went to his childhood home in Daly City California to start our collaboration. We wrapped seven old skateboards, all different Chico-Stix shapes that Chico skated, in colored fabric and placed them in a spot in the backyard that got the most sunlight.... and left.
On June 6th 2025- the day of the Strawberry Moon, we returned to see the results of this very simple gesture. in the six months that passed, the effects of time and natural forces became visible. the sun, wind and rain altered, shifted and bleached out the fabric to the folds and contours of the used skateboards. there was no photo emulsion or chemical accelerant used in. this process- just time passing and the energy of the sun.
Upon harvest, the fabric was washed and brought into my studio, cut up, sewn, painted and stretched to create this series. the energy, aura and residue of these old skateboards and the backyard they rested in for six months were transformed into painterly sun bleached gestures to create compositions that honor and embrace time, place, the sun, the moon as metric and the power of skateboarding.
The past makes the present.
